Summer school on deformation in robotics
29 Jun-3 Jul 2026 Villeneuve-d'Ascq, France (France)

Motivation and Description

The use of deformations in robotics is one of the most active fields of application and research. To train the next generation of researchers and engineers, the PEPR O2R, Inria, CNRS, Centrale Lille and the University of Lille are joining forces to organize summer schools. During one week, participants will attend lectures and practical sessions on the fundamental concepts (modelling, simulation and control) necessary for the use of deformable materials in soft robotics, continuum robotics, hybrid rigid/deformable robotics as well as in rigid robotics interacting with a deformable environment.

The keynotes and lectures will be given in English. Research engineers, young and senior researchers, Ph.D. students are all welcome to the summer school.

The previous event: 2022 and 2024

Important Information

Before registering, a 2-page abstract must be submitted. An overview of the applicants research's project, even at an early stage, is an appropriate submission. It is not mandatory to show new or previously unpublished results.

  • Upon request, the participants may convert their abstract submission to a poster contribution after registration.
  • For the poster session, contributions by PhD students will be prioritized

The abstract/poster should summarize or present an ongoing research topic and reflect the link to the topic of the Summer School. If there are more registrations than available places, the abstracts will be used for selecting participants. Concerning the selection process:

  • We will check the adequacy between the summer school topic and the submitted contributions
  • Between two adequate submissions, the earliest one will prevail

The registration process requires to create an account on this website (Login -> Create account) and will follow the agenda below:

  • March 01 st, 2026: Opening of the abstract submission on the website
  • April 15 th, 2026: Deadline for submitting the abstract
  • April 31 th, 2026: Final decisions and opening of the registration

Thanks to IEEE-RAS:
- the registration is free for up to 40 participants, This covers lunches, welcome reception, and banquet.
- IEEE RAS Student Members Tavel Grands will be provided to RAS Student Member travelling from distant regions to assist with flight and other travel expenses. Contact us for more information.
